Are purple jeans cool?

Today I dyed a pair of jeans. When I bought them, they were a light wash, which I really don't care for. They're very comfortable though and I like the way they fit (Ann Taylor Loft). So, after a little bit of research, I decided to use Rit dye to make them black. I figured they would end up being dark gray. Not so much. They're dark purple with hints of pink. I don't really understand color theory, so I have no idea how that happened! So, I guess I'll try again. This time I'll do it in the sink instead of the washing machine.
